Anita Garibaldi
Anita Garibaldi
The Anita Garibaldi minifigure by Italianminifig is the representation of the Brazilian revolutionary woman who became a comrade in arms and wife of the Italian patriot Giuseppe Garibaldi. The figure and clothing of the heroine of the Risorgimento are rich in details and are printed at 360 degrees. An Italian flag is included in the sales package.
Although Brazilian by birth, Ana Maria de Jesus Ribeiro is remembered as one of the most passionate Italian patriots of the Risorgimento. Twenty-year-old wife of Giuseppe Garibaldi, she actively participated in the national liberation movements, during which she died at only 28 years old.
Anita was a determined and independent woman since she was a teenager. In 1835, the revolt for the independence of the Rio Grande Republic from the Empire of Brazil broke out. Ana Maria empathized with the rebels and joined them and, right on the battlefield, she met Giuseppe Garibaldi. The two became not only companions in life, but also in struggle.
Upon hearing the news of the first European riots, the revolutionary couple left Latin America to embrace the Italian patriotic cause. In the general framework of the uprisings that later led to the unification of Italy, Anita and Giuseppe committed themselves to the defense of the Roman Republic, a brief republican experience that saw the Pope lose control of the future Italian capital.
The arrival of the French army in defense of the Papal States determined a reversal of the situation and Giuseppe and Anita Garibaldi were forced to flee, heading for Venice. But, pregnant and prostrate by malaria, Anita was unable to see the Serenissima: she died near Ravenna.
Anita, even though she was a revolutionary daughter of her time, still represents a model, a symbol of struggle and courage.
