The Italianminifig maquisard minifigure is the reproduction of a French partisan and is sold complete with the iconic black beret. The maquisard outfit is rich in detail and is printed 360° on an original Lego.

In french the word "maquis" means "scrub", in the sense of "brush", and was the term used to indicate the national resistance and liberation movement during the Second World War. The partisans, women and men who abandoned civilian life to go into hiding out and fight for resistance, were called "maquisards".

The maquisards, integrated into the Resistance, were soon organized into the ranks of the French Forces of the Interior - which were part of the provisional government of the Republic born after the fall of the Vichy Regime - or in those of the Francs-Tireurs et Partisans formation, which it referred to the French Communist Party.

In the general framework of the French Liberation, the maquisards played a very important role, especially during the Normandy landings in June 1944 and the landing operation in Provence the following August. The success of both operations also depended on the guerrilla actions of the partisans who delayed the arrival of German reinforcements.

The partisan formations were dissolved by De Gaulle once the Liberation took place. Many of the maquisards were integrated into the French army.
