The 75/18 Mod. 35 howitzer was an artillery piece designed for the Royal Italian Army, intended to become a key component of its artillery forces during World War II. It was the first artillery piece fully designed and manufactured in Italy to be mounted on a deformation carriage.
In addition to being used as a towed howitzer, pulled by vehicles such as the Fiat-SPA TL37, it was also employed on tracked and self-propelled vehicles.
The Mod. 35 introduced a new carriage design and metal-spoked wheels, initially made from elektron (a magnesium-aluminum alloy) and later replaced with steel sheet wheels. The 1.3-meter diameter wheels featured semi-pneumatic rings and an elastic torsion bar suspension. Compared to the previous Mod. 34, the trail design was modified to fold into just two sections instead of three, reducing the overall length of the piece in travel configuration.
A total of 186 units were ordered, but the first deliveries only took place in 1941, as many of the gun barrels were redirected to equip the M41 and M42 self-propelled guns.
