The Italianminifig’s infantryman minifigure of the 4th "Livorno" Infantry Division is the reproduction of one of the over 13,000 men who made up the Royal Army unit employed in the battle of Gela in July 1943.

The uniform is rich in details and printed at 360° on original Lego.

The name "Livorno" derives from the "Livorno Brigade", active between 1860 and 1871.

Formed in 1939, the 4th Division was deployed on the Western Front with the task of facing the French army. In 1942, the deployment to Malta and Tunisia was evaluated, but the need to employ men in Sicily to obstruct the landing and advance of the Allies prevailed.

The code name that was given to the landing in Sicily of the American and English soldiers was "Operation Husky". The operation began on July 10, 1943 and aimed to open a front in continental Europe to defeat the Axis powers. From this point of view, the result achieved by the Allies was fully positive, but the initial intent to close the Italian and German soldiers in a flanking maneuver failed: the surviving Nazi-Fascist troops retreated to continental Italy.

The Livorno fought strenuously, but lost most of its 13,000 men. It’s estimated that only 4,000 soldiers managed to retreat beyond the Strait of Messina.

The 4th "Livorno" Infantry Division was disbanded after the armistice of September 1943.
